BLOOD WEDDING, The Flamenco Suite

Krvavá svadba
The Antonio Gades Company/Spain

No performance.

Shortly before his death Antonio Gades - the legendary Spanish choreographer - created a foundation to support his artistic heritage as well as the spread of Spanish dance worldwide. At the foundation’s headquarters a dance company bearing his name was established - the Antonio Gades Ballet, which holds the exclusive rights to stage Gades’ works and to preserve the original style in which his works were created.

Blood Wedding

Blood Wedding is an enthralling dance work based on Federico Garcia Lorca's lyrical tragedy of the same name. From the movements and gestures of the dancers accompanied by vivid, electrifying rhythm of guitars during the wedding reception the drama of passion, jealousy and death are born The staging also became the theme for the famous film of the same name by Carlos Saura. Blood Wedding has been staged by many dance theatres including the Spanish National Ballet, the Cuban National Ballet, Ballet de Nancy, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and the Andalusian dance group. The Antonio Gades Ballet is once again to stage ballet as one of the most important works of Spanish dramatic ballet and a leading work of classical and contemporary dance.

The Flamenco Suite

The Flamenco Suite is one of the works Antonio Gades launched his solo career with in 1963. The suite was first staged by Gades’ company - which among others featured Cristina Hoyos, his dancing partner for nearly twenty years. The suite consists of a series of numbers through which viewers can admire the aesthetics of flamenco - solos, duets and group dances. All dances are seen from the artistic perspective of Antonio Gades and offer the unique opportunity to see the path of flamenco as a fusion of avant-garde and classical artistry.
