A native of Lučenec, Peter Janků studied at the Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica and the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava (set and costume design under Aleš Votava). He earned his PhD. in 2011 at the Institute of Artistic and Literary Communication of the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra.

In the years 2000 – 2002 Peter Janků was artistic director of the stage design department and assistant to music director in charge of technical matters at the State Opera in Banská Bystrica. In Bratislava, Peter Janků designed the interior and was artistic director (2002 – 2003) of the Theatrium theatre (currently Heineken Tower Stage). In addition to his free-lance design work, Peter Janků has worked as editor, director and later dramaturge and team leader in several private TV channels and the public RTVS. He has designed sets or costumes for 22 amateur, 10 student and 55 professional productions, including three films and a TV series. He has worked for a number of theatres and opera houses including the State Opera in Banská Bystrica, Nová Scéna Theatre in Bratislava, The Moravian-Silesian Theatre in Ostrava, A-Studio Rubín in Prague, GUnaGu Theatre in Bratislava, Ján Palárik Theatre in Trnava as well as for the Slovak Television, Oreo Production, JMB production and many more. Peter Janků has collaborated with acclaimed directors Román Polák, Viliam Dočolomanský, Viliam Klimáček, Karol Vosátko, Dana Dinková, Matthew Hawkins, Patrik Lančarič among others.

Peter Janků´s set designs as well as his journalistic and theatre activities have earned him a number of awards, he is recipient of the 2010 Dráma award and the Slovak Radio Award for the theatre play Kamene života (Stones of Life).
