Ivan Ožvát enjoyed singing from early childhood and performed at numerous events and concerts. After finishing high school he began his studies at the Medical School, but his love to singing was stronger and eventually he graduated from the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Bratislava, where he studied concert and opera singing. He was among the best graduates who had appeared at the Slovak National Theatre while still studying. His role models and mentors were influential figures of Slovak culture – among them Mária Kišoňová-Hubová, Andrej Očenáš, Gustav Papp, Viliam Záborský, A. I. Orfionov, Janko Blaho, Eugen Suchoň, Darina Laščiaková, Gejza Dusík and Štefan Hoza.
Mr. Ožvát has been soloist at the Slovak National Theatre Opera for over thirty years. During his career he has appeared in over 60 opera and operetta roles. He is respected for his musicality, the rich sound of his tenor voice and compelling acting and has received both critical and popular acclaim for his convincing psychological portrayals of buffo and comic characters. Nowadays he is among the leading singers at the SND Opera.
Mr. Ožvát spent several years as the soloist of the Nová Scéna Theatre where he sang numerous leading roles in operettas such as The Merry Widow, La belle Hélène, Die Csárdásfürstin, Die Fledermaus, Der Zigeunerbaron, Eine Nacht in Venedig and in musicals, among them My Fair Lady, Grand Hotel and Cancan. Ivan Ožvát´s repertory ranges from opera and operetta arias and songs, musicals, Romantic vocal music, Yiddish songs and Slovak folk songs. He has performed in operas, concerts and social events in Slovakia and at Slovak embassies and gatherings all over the world. Mr. Ožvát is an artist of exceptional charm and charisma. He sings in Italian, French, Russian, Hungarian, Czech, English, German and Yiddish. His name has been listed in Slovakia´s Who´s Who.
Mr. Ožvát has performed in numerous European countries and overseas at various opera and operetta festivals and tours. His prolonged stays in Japan, Monaco, Cuba and Ireland left a lasting impression. His impressive voice can be heard on four opera CDs (released by RGT Milano). His two solo CDs, the first including 17 Slovak operetta melodies, evergreens and tangos and a solo CD of over 20 Slovak folk songs have received great acclaim. In the near future Mr. Ožvát is releasing a unique CD of operatic arias showcasing his impressive vocal range.
