One of the most successful and popular comedy authors of international theatre has a perfect “nose” for curious topics and bizarre life stories. Such is the true story of Florence Foster Jenkins, the worst singer in the world, which has delighted audiences in dozens of sold out theatres around the world. Ms. Jenkins could badly sing famous arias with such gusto, that she even sold out Carnegie Hall. “"People may say I can't sing, but no one can ever say I didn't sing." With this motto, Jenkins explained her persistent effort to present her out of tune singing in front of audiences who had seen Maria Callas.
The play is set in the mid-1940s in New York. The wealthy and eccentric Florence passionately pursues her dream of standing in front of an audience as an opera diva, even though she is discouraged by her surroundings. Well, it is hard to tell whether this falls into the category of crimes against art, but it is hardly a sin to follow one´s desires and to experience the thrill of being on stage if only for the proverbial 15 minutes…
