To open the world of sounds and to reveal the magical spheres of music to young listeners – that was the intention of the great English composer Benjamin Britten. And he did not simply make do with music itself, he invited children to discover the world of opera. Opera is a genre, which is sung rather than spoken, and yet it can tell more than words can.
The Little Sweep is the story of little Sam, bullied by the brutal old chimney sweep Black Bob and his silly son Clem. How frightened and powerless one can feel in the confines of a narrow dark chimney and how long one must scrub oneself to change from a black monster into a human being again! Of course, it´s the children who defeat all fear and rage with their wit and skill and help Sam get free. And don´t forget, in this musical story, it´s not just the singers and actors on stage, come to the Slovak National Theatre and you can join in, too.
