The new building of the Slovak National Theatre was designed by Slovak architects Martin Kusý, Pavol Paòák and Peter Bauer whose project was selected out of fifty three entries. The building has seven floors, over 2000 rooms and three main auditoriums (Opera and Ballet Hall, Drama Hall, Studio). In addition it has a restaurant that seats 120, a club, a café, a reading café and a kitchen.
The theatre building opened on 14 April 2007 in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by the President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gasparoviè and the Minister of Culture Marek Maïariè.
